Perry's sword is a magical artifact he received in his second world (or third if you count his home world), Seraphinus. The sword has several unique abilities, including allowing Perry to fly when held.

Powers[]

  • Levitation: The sword can fly through the air in response to Perry's mental commands.[1] Speaking the commands aloud can help, especially when trying to summon it from far away.[2] It doesn't fly fast enough to be useful offensively, and past a certain distance he wouldn't be able to summon it.[3]
  • Weightlessness: When held, the sword makes Perry weightless, and allows him to fly by letting the sword drag him through the air.[1] The sword pulses with energy as it holds him up.[4]
  • Sharpness: The blade is sharp enough to cut through medieval plate armor.[5] It can't penetrate stone or thick metal, or some exotic materials (such as Maya's nanotech.)[3]
  • Glow: the sword's blade constantly glows with a faint light, and glows brighter when in battle. This can be easily hidden using a sheath when not using it.[6]

History[]

The sword was gifted to Perry by an aged wizard in the world of Seraphinus.[7]

  1. 1.0 1.1 "The sword, however, did let him fly. It could move with a mind of its own, following simple and direct mental commands, and when it was in his hand, it made him weightless. Flying with the sword was like being a balloon pulled in the wake of a car, and he needed to make the power armor rigid in order to not sway and twist as the sword moved. It was a slower method of travel than leaping from building to building with the suit, but took none of the suit’s limited battery, and was quiet as a whisper." - Thresholder, Chapter 1 - A Whole New World
  2. “To me,” he whispered, not to Marchand, but to the sword. He had a link to it, mostly mental, but at range words seemed to help make his will known. The sword could fly of its own accord, and once it got to him, he could fly out of danger. - Thresholder, Chapter 2 - Customs
  3. 3.0 3.1 “I have the sword, which lets me fly,” said Perry. “It’s sharp enough to cut anything but stone or metal, or whatever your catsuit is made out of. I can call it to me with a thought, so long as it’s close enough, and send it flying where I want it to, but not with enough power to hurt anyone who’s serious about not being hurt. Good for a surprise attack, I guess, but I’ve never used it that way.” - Thresholder, Chapter 29 - Tea Time
  4. He held his sword, which pulsed with energy as it kept him from slipping down, and surveyed the area. - Thresholder, Chapter 1 - A Whole New World
  5. As well as granting flight and moving through the air at a command, it was sharp enough to cut through plate armor. - Thresholder, Chapter 4 - Transmission
  6. He landed on top of the house and sat there for a moment, looking around to see whether his dark, quiet flight through the air had been noticed. The sword glowed faintly, brighter when in battle, but it was sheathed. The sheath had been finished only the night before, a last minute request to the king's quartermaster. - Thresholder, Chapter 1 - A Whole New World
  7. "He had fought orcs and hobgoblins, and been gifted a magical sword by an aged wizard." - Thresholder, Chapter 1 - A Whole New World
