Poul, Chapter 1: "Taking the Fall"

Biography[]

After being convicted of rape by a military tribunal, Cold Comfort Poul was put on one of the Host's planes into the Risen Lands with Juniper Smith, the Fuchsia Coterie and various other criminals. He was able to slip his gag and tried to tell his fellow passengers to work together, but was cut off when the plane's belly opened and the passengers were dropped. Taking the Fall

He later wound up stuck with Becca and an injured Sly inside an abandoned clothing store, where he ran into Juniper once more. After Sly's death, he defused an argument between Juniper and Becca. He advocated that they remain in the store for a day until the worst of the danger had passed, against Becca's more risky approach.

Juniper ended up clearing the path outside, with Becca and Poul close behind. When Becca fell and Juniper turned back for her, Poul kept running and got away. He ran into three undead outside the mechanic's shop, and had to lead them away - he arrived back at the shop shortly before Juniper himself. They went into the shop together, where Poul recognised "Cypress" as Princess Amaryllis Penndraig and pledged himself to her service. Goraion

However, with room for only two on the soulcycle, Amaryllis interrogated him. He revealed full name and his crime, and attempted to persuade her that he would make a better travelling companion than Juniper. Juniper disagreed, mistakenly thinking that Amaryllis wouldn't murder the rapist in cold blood - as it turned out, she didn't hesitate shooting Poul with the void rifle and collecting his soul.
