The World Lords were a collection of beings believed to be linked to the end of Aerb. If three of them exist on Aerb at a time, then Aerb and all associated planes will allegedly end. [1]

Their existence and identities were heavily classified by Uniquities, but Harold and his cultists somehow found out about them anyway and were attempting to summon them to destroy the world.[1] The World Lord prophecy was a result of the limits of The Warden; the Warden was only able to exclude one of them at a time, and they could use each other to become more powerful; for example, Fel Seed might have used Mome Rath's antimemetic powers to fool the Warden and escape or expand his exclusion.[2]

Known World Lords included Fel Seed and Mome Rath.[1] The Jubjub Bird was another World Lord,[3] although Raven wasn't certain it was real, so this may not have been known to Uniquities.[4]

Behind the Scenes[]

Narratively speaking, they were created as a potential future threat Uther might have faced if his adventures had continued, and as an ominous background detail.[2]

  1. 1.0 1.1 1.2 “Me too. He talked about the World Lords, which Mome Rath seemed to be one of, and told me that he was trying to bring about the end of the world. Not sure how he thought Mome Rath was going to do that.” “What’s a World Lord?” asked Valencia, staring hard at Finch. I briefly looked at Malus, who had her eyes fixed on Finch. “Really starting to not like you very much,” said Finch, frowning at Valencia. “Fine. One of Uniquities' many duties is containing the World Lords. If three of them get out at any given time, it’s supposedly game over for Aerb and every plane with even a remote attachment to it, hells included. No real details on the mechanism, and obviously no proof that’s true. The identity and nature of the World Lords is classified beyond belief, and most of it is guesswork, but there’s already one of them, living in an exclusion zone.” “Fel Seed,” I said. Finch stared at me. “Not a lucky guess?” he asked. - Chapter 157: The Bird on the Fence
  2. 2.0 2.1 The idea for the World Lords was that they were a part of the escalation of Uther's adventures, planned bosses that were waiting in the wings to be deployed should the adventure have continued on. There was always going to be something more, and the stakes were always going to be higher, as were the dangers that needed to be faced. There were a bunch of rules behind the scene that weren't very important and could only really be revealed through prophecy, like 1) the exclusionary principle could only contain one of them at a time and 2) they would grow more powerful with each other's power to draw on. Mome Rath's antimemetic power breaking Fel Seed free of containment, or at least allowing expansion of the borders of the exclusion zone, for example. But it didn't do anything for the story, so was kept ominous and in the background. - WtC Q&A
  3. Q: Other than Fel Seed and Mome Rath, were there any other World Lords that weren't mentioned in the story? A: Nope, I never made more than I had to. The Jubjub bird was one of them though. Q: In regards to the Jubjub bird, what actually brought down the Frumions on Aerb? A: I have always liked to believe that Juniper is wrong, and it really was just supply chain failures. Then I can imagine him finding that out later, and realizing that it was a joke at his expense. - WtC Q&A
